$13m crucifix church to be built

California, U.S.A, Nov.09,2007 (CINS/Cathnews) - A $13milllion crucifix shaped church will be built in California much to the delight of the local Catholic community.

Named the St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church – named for the 16th century archbishop of Milan will include a sanctuary to seat 1,400 people. A small chapel will also be attached, the Visalia-Delta Times reported.

Fresno diocese Bishop John Steinbock of the Fresno diocese blessed the site of the proposed church dedicating it to the “growth of this community of faith in this portion of God's vineyard."

Plans call for support buildings, including a bell tower, parish hall, rectory and school, will be added in the future.

While it may take up to six years for the church to be completed, early construction will begin involving footpaths and carparks.
